Sharon's Jack Layton Quilt

My friend Sharon, created an orange quilt in honour of Jack Layton. Word of this amazing quilt needs to spread to organizers in the New Democratic Party to use this quilt to raise funds for prostate cancer. Sharon used Jack’s letter to Canadians in her quilt label.

Three quarters + to my goal of 40 quilts

Thanks to the help of many new quilting friends I am over three quarters of my goal of 40 quilts. I’m at 32 quilts with two more at the quilter’s. And several panels out being made into quilts. I never imagined this project would be so amazing. Of the four quilts that have been raffled they’ve averaged $955.00 each.

Many people have commented they would love to see all of them before I give them out to cancer serving agencies.

I’d appreciate your comments and suggestions about some 40 quilts exhibitions with a nominal entrance fee of $5.00 with people having the opportunity to buy raffle tickets for $25.00 towards a chance to win a quilt in some raffles. One fundraiser would be for the Victoria Cancer Clinic with funds raised going to patient care and comfort / family support and the other for the Victoria Hospice.

I see these exhibitions as an afternoon on a weekend in the summer. If you have any ideas or are interested in helping out please let me know. I’m open to your feedback.

Twenty-six Quilts Completed

Nancy has just informed me that 26 quilts have been completed for the project!

Of the 14 quilts left to be made to reach the 40 quilts goal, four are already in progress. Watch for an update soon on the dollars raised by this project.

Quilt raises money for breast cancer

Nancy is happy to report that Nicole’s “burgundy hearts” quilt, which went to Alberta for a fundraising project, raised $2266.75 for breast cancer research!

Nicole’s quilt heads to Alberta

Nicole’s quilt - that burgundy beauty featuring white hearts – has just been packed up and shipped off to Alberta for a breast cancer fundraiser!

Nancy asked the organizers to send her any photos and the amount of money raised by the quilt at the fundraiser so we’ll post that here when she hears.

While Nancy continues to focus on quilt project I continue to help her by blogging about what she’s up to. And it’s a lot! I’m so proud of what Nancy and the rest of the quilters have accomplished so far.

Here is Nancy’s most recent update for you – so many exciting things are happening!:

I anticipate three or four new quilts in the near future. I cut another quilt out last night and am working on a border and and backing for the quilt top I got from Catriona. Once this is done I’ll take it out and pick up another quilt ready for binding.

I’m getting an orange quilt in memory and honour of Jack Layton. Plus my friend who lives in a lighthouse off the West Coast is giving me her quilt on Saturday when she’s in town for training….I haven’t had any response from having quilts in the fabric shops…I guess everyone is thinking about Halloween or Christmas.

Oh I forgot to mention that I had a request for a quilt to be used for a fundraiser in Alberta…..

Good news! Nancy found a photographer to take good-quality photos of the quilts. We’ll likely have them up on the website soon. Nancy says, “I can’t believe what a huge improvement having someone with a really nice camera take photos of the quilts is. I’m looking forward to getting them.”
